We finally left Muskegon - June 29th

Saturday - June 30th 2012
Pentwater  Lake – Anchored
The trials and tribulations trying to leave
We found a few glitches on our trip to St. Joe – the biggest was the tracking pad on our new chart plotter.  We had to send it back to be repaired along with the depth sounder control head. Both under warranty but it meant a week’s delay in leaving.  Then the refrigerator would not shut off and only cooled down to 50 degrees. Waited till Friday for repair person to show and fill with gas.  We closed up the house, unplugged, locked, stowed, shut off and locked the door. We have wonderful neighbors who will mow grass, clear snow from porch and in general keep an eagle eye on things. We also have a good friend who will visit from time to time and run water, water the cactus and in general keep track of things for us.
We stayed on Cool hand Friday night anticipating leaving very early Saturday morning. WELLLLLLL – when I was cooking dinner we found out that one of our propane tanks is leaking.   Had to wait till 9 am to see if we could get it fix –  nope – DANG IT WE ARE LEAVING.
Meghan and Eric arrived to see us off – first stop to get fuel and a pump out, and our first PANIC.  I brought us to the dock and did not know you pushed the off button first then when the engine stopped running you turn the key.  So our engine kept running – SCREAM- figured it out and got gone.
We sailed the first half of the day but wind died and we motored to Pentwater. Lots of other sail boats on the lake – one followed us in to Pentwater and is anchored behind us.
So no infestation of flies, just a pesky red funny waspy looking fly – usual gauntlet of fishing boats – lots of sun – fridge is still working- all is well  and we were just treated to fireworks. There will be a video on face book if I can ever get it down loaded.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, our journey is just beginning.
