Sunday July 1, 2012- Portage Lake
We had another fairly successful day sailing. We left Pentwater Lake around 9ish – very
light winds- very- so we motored past Ludington and around Big Sable point and
we found WIND. Hoisted the Main and set
the Jib (forgive me is I have terms backwards or wonky) we soon were going over
5 kts and topped out at over 6- well then we got to Manistee and POOOFFF wind
gone. After unsuccessful hinking around with the sails we became a motor sail
boat and finally furled the jib and lowered the main. With the new boom it is a breeze.
I am typing this while we sway on the wakes of passing boats
in Portage Lake and listen to music. Hoping there are fireworks again tonight.
I have posted a couple of videos on Facebook from today. Hope you get a look at
them.
We want to send a big thank you to Josiah at Elite Canvas –
everything is perfect. Can’t get by
without a shout at everyone at Torensen that gave us help, excellent
workmanship, and endless advice. There
are lots of people that gave time, labor and knowledge to help Tom and I
achieve this dream in addition to everyone that is following us and keeping us
in their thoughts and prayers.
Well closing for the night, have to catch up on reading and
watch Tom wash the dishes – Hey I do the cooking. J
We have left Pentwater and are heading north |
Glad we were going North - storm clouds behind us gave us some wind for sailing |
ok- I think this looks like an angry bird - yes I have had way to much sun |
The black capped bird with orange beak is a Caspian Tern |
coming into Portage lake for the day |
