Sheboygan to Manitowoc

Woke to red skies again but the water was not as rolling.

What a difference a day makes, yesterday blue cloudless skies
today gray haze and possible rain.

pulled up anchor and said good bye to Sheboygan.

the sky and water appeared to merge together. Again we were
the only ones out here, even the fisherman headed home.

SS Badger in port - it is very different from Ludington

Posted by PicasaWell we are staying in Manitowoc for a day - rain in the forecast for Wednesday and they have a Maritime Museum that we want to see. Also Thursday it is going to warm up again  PLEASE LET IT WARM UP

leaving Muskegon - crossing the lake

We woke early to red skies and started to get ready to leave.

lots of fishing boats to maneuver around , but I did get this picture
clear skies and a good day for sailing

there were at least 25 boats our there all believing the only
fish in lake Michigan were in the front of the channel.
Foolish me for thinking they might move.

This little guy was very tired and refused to move from the
safety of our boat - he finally left in the morning

the last hazy bumps on the horizon - we lost complete site of land
around 2pm - the wind finally kicked in and with sails up we were making
4 to 5 kts.  ETA for Wis. was around 1am

this trip over we did not see any other ships. No freighters- no one
it was just us and the gulls.

Posted by PicasaSun set and we were still 10+ miles from Sheboygan and the temperatures were dropping. To think in August we had fleeces on and still cold. I did manage a hot meal and we sailed on. Around 10 pm we heard a very disconcerting twang and found that the pulley for our topping lift disappeared into the dark waters. Tom quickly fixed a substitute and we brought down the sails, motoring the rest of the way. It was to late to get a slip so we dropped anchor outside the break wall.  Being rocked, bounced and generally tossed all night makes you appreciate a tie down at a wooden pier.

A little sleep deprived but moving on
Fair winds.

In Muskegon - took walk in the woods

We are spending a few days in Muskegon, getting some repairs done to Cool Hand before we head out again. This is sunrise - taken from the hatch in the front berth.
I love to see color in the sky even if it means 'sailor beware'.
I did not touch up this picture. The fog was low at the waters edge

transplanted my Christmas cactus before I left- it likes its new home

this is the stream in the woods behind our house

a spot of color

Posted by Picasathere are great gnarled tree roots - well took dozens of pictures - let me know if you want to see more. We should be leaving to go to Wisconsin sometime this weekend or Monday - have to wait on the wind.
