Lost Bird: Sculptures by Todd McGrain - George Eastman House

The exhibition has 5 sculptures of birds species that are no longer around. They are in different areas around the grounds of the George Eastman House.
Labrador Duck- Estimated extinction 1878 -lived in the Atlantic seaboard
from Labrador to Nova Scotia , south to the Chesapeake Bay
Carolina Parakeet- estimated extinction 1930's - mass eradication by farmers
protecting crops, feather hunters and trappers collecting specimens for sale as
pets.
Heath Hen - habitat Maine to Virginia - estimated extinction 1932  caused
by over hunting



Great Auk- estimated extinction 1888- over hunting by the
industrialized European feather trade
Passenger Pigeon- estimated extinction 1914- full-scale hunting to feed growing American
urban populations
