Leaving Swansboro at 6AM sunrise in the Ditch

Hello everyone  We are over 2000 miles into our trip and we are traveling in what the locals call the Ditch.
Friday night our marina will drive guest to a local restaurant The Riverside Tavern. We had a great dinner with Dotty and Has. We also were discussing the best time to leave in the morning. Getting out of our docking area was going to be a little tricky. Locals said slack tide would be around 7, the staff would be there at 5:30 AM and would help us cast off lines and back out of our berth. (there was a speckled trout fishing tourney on Saturday so that is why they were going to be there early.)

We were up at the first rosy cold glow of dawn. It was not the predicted 46 degrees but 36 degrees. We ate hot oatmeal and started to disconnect from the dock. At 6:30 we were out and following Skye down the "Ditch".  All was well, our first bottle neck would be at the Onslow Beach Swing Bridge owned and operated by Camp Lejeune.  We were lucky and the operator held it for us and we scooted on through.

I have lots of pictures of birds. A group of Pelicans is called a squadron. We passed some interesting houses, and I finally got some photos of Dolphins or Porpoise, if they would stay on the surface longer I would know what they are, but I was happy to get the pic's I got.

More in the next two blogs, lots of pictures so little space

dawn creeping over the horizon

Just like this house all warm under the morning sunrise
