Leaving Haverstraw Marina for New York part one

What a difference- we woke to blue skies and just a whisper of wind. After a quick breakfast and exchange of cards and info with Chris and Kristen Labatt-Simon of S/V Pelican- we cast off - filled up on diesel and headed out into the Hudson. We decided to make the long haul all the way to Staten Island thinking it was only 30 nm. The day was great and I was quickly absorbed in the scenery. Slowly the river banks shed their tall mountains for houses, buildings, large wharf's, factories and all the marks  of a very busy water way. I have broken this down because as usual I have lots of pictures to share. I took over 500 and first pass only took out 50 that - well you really don't want to see them.
our trip in three days
Haverstraw Marina -  After sticker shock of $ 2.25 per foot plus
a fee for hook up - the marina is an excellent refuge from unpredictable
weather. They have over 1000 slips, deep water, hot showers and
many other services.

The Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge, usually referred to as Tappan Zee Bridge, is a cantilever bridge in New York State over the Hudson River at one of its widest points; the Tappan Zee is named for an American Indian tribe from the area called "Tappan"; and zee being the Dutch word for "sea".[4] It connects South Nyack in Rockland County with Tarrytown in Westchester County in the Lower Hudson Valley. Federal and state authorities are currently planning a Tappan Zee replacement bridge, with estimated completion in 2017.
It is the longest bridge in the State of New York.[citation needed] The total length of the bridge and approaches is 16,013 feet (4,881 m). The cantilever span is 1,212 feet (369 m) providing a maximum clearance of 138 feet (42 m) over the water. The bridge is about 25 miles (40 km) north of midtown Manhattan; the skyline can be seen from the bridge on a clear day.
