last of the day - finding shelter at Haverstraw marnia 9/8/2012

Sorry it took so many blogs to get through one day. We are rounding Jones Point and can see Peekskill but that bay is really shallow and the wind and waves were unpredictable to say the least. We continued on still hopeing to make the way-point anchoring site the other side of Croton Bay. It was not to be - the waves were fast and getting larger. Tom had us at full out and we were only making 2kts. Time to duck for cover.
We had sticker shock at the marina $2.25 per foot plus paying for Electric hook up. We will have to get use to these prices from now on. Now I know why so many people anchor out. Better part of valor, I would not have liked anchoring in the storms that came on all night. It is Sunday now, Toms going to look for Mast Tape so we can seal up that leak. Then NEW YORK  YEAH

Clematis paniculate / Sweet Autumn / fragrant- I could just
catch its scent coming across the water.
yep that's a plane
Bear Mountain Bridge
another neat house
finally got one - they are this close to the rivers edge

town of Peekskill
one barge that passed us and did not slow down. We already were
in rough water this just added to the discomfort.

The Half Moon is a full-scale, operating replica of the Dutch ship of exploration that Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. It is a traveling museum that conducts programs about the unique history of the Dutch colony called New Netherland.

yep a wind surfer - the weather was nasty - gusts over 20 kts -
we have waves breaking over the bow to the cockpit and waves
breaking at the side- the water is very cold.
We could see the clouds getting darker in the west headed out way.
Called Haverstraw Marina and got tied to the dock with 5 minutes to
spare - then rain, thunder and lightening and wind.
