Allen Cay, Rock Iguans, three more birds, sandy bottoms

Tuesday morning we finally said good bye to Cape Eleuthera starting on our final weeks in the Bahamas. The problems plaguing our refrigerator have increased. Now it will not run unless we are hooked to shore power or running our engine. It is time for a new one. Tom also wants to go back to Michigan to file our Taxes, all the forms and information are there. On the return trip he will bring his car to San Antonio and them come back to Fort Meyers - that is where Cool Hand and I will be waiting for him.  We decided we would make a stop over in the Exumas and chose Allen Cay for protection and the Allen's Cay Iguana, a species of Rock Iguana.  More on that adventure later.

We did sail most of the day, which was a treat. We have a three day window until another front drops down so not a lot of time for play. I identified my unknown bird from Spanish Well and added two more to my collection.

Allen cay was recommended as a good back country anchorage, the the Iguana habitat as a pleasant addition. You are not suppose to feed, pick up, pester, intimidate  bother the iguanas  I felt a little over whelmed by them with over a dozen on the beach when we arrive. the kind of sidled up to you then back away.  Odd critters. I did find additional shells and a sand dollar to add to that collection.

The anchorage is between two rocky islands. Again the color of the water became very important as we went for 6' to 4' very quickly and Cool Hand nestled in for a rest in clean white sand. The tide is 3' with a strong east / west current and we got off and motored over to 10' area for the night. This was not a gentle night. We were in a washing machine current wind the whole night. The stars - with no ground lights to interfere the night sky were wondrous   If for no other reason everyone should go to a back island to see Stars.

This Allen Cay Iguana was all by himself and greeted us
when we came ashore.  I was trying to help Tom beach the
dingy instead I lost my footing and fell in.
I think that is a smile on this iguana's face.

the water is crystal clear, sand very white
