Hello everyone
It is Saturday, and we woke to a wee hours in the morning, rain storm. I usually know one is on the way because I wake with a sinus headache. The v-berth is below the forward hatch, and instead of stars now all I see is a very dark mottled sky.
Slowly we start the routine of closing hatches, and checking the deck to make sure everything is secure and put away. Of course we left things out last night so we scrambled to get things ship shape before the real rain started.
We can see the still waters start to move, feeling the increased frequency of slapping waves against the hull and the insueing tugs and jerks at the mooring ropes. Now wind rushes through the halyards, and large drops of rain, confirmermation we are in the path of the storm.
The noise is all around us now. Patter, plunks, spats and spatters of rain speed up and come in waves like a thousand tiny feet marching on the deck. The wind comes in gusts and our wind generator tells us the relative speed by the sound. Now the sheets start clinking and clanking, complimenting the moan of wind through the rigging. As the rain increases so does the wind and the symphony of noise can be highly entertaining.
I can't forget to mention the movement. Our boat can pitch and roll, all the while turning into the wind at the end of our mooring rope. The large rolling wave really sets things in motion.
Today we were lucky and no lightening or thunder accompanied the rain. That adds a whole other dimension to a weather experiences. Slowly it all drifted north over land, and we are back to calm waters, and soft humid breezes.
We are leaving today, heading north with Rubicon and Monarch. Our goal is the Bridge and beyond.
