There has been some confusion as to where we have been and
where we are at and where we are going.
Believe me most of the time we are as confused as everyone else.
So Few basics
We started from Torensen Marina on June 29th 2012
in Muskegon Lake
Our first “yes we have to be there” destination is the
Galveston Texas area by mid/late July of 2013 to get ready for Jennie’s wedding
on August 23rd 2013.
So here is a brief run down
We went north on Lake Michigan our first delay in Frankfort,
Mi. We meet the crew of South Bound and down.
We continued on around past Mackinac Island into Lake Huron
(nope did not do Lake Superior on account of the fact it's cold, and we had a
late start- might catch it on the way back when ever.)
We traveled down Lake Huron with extended stays in Tawas and
Port Huron. (repairs and meeting friends, and weather)
From Lake Huron we went to Lake St. Claire and another
extended stay at Jefferson Beach Marina but a great visit with Gary and Diane on
board Monarch and caught up with Chasseur and Nautical Dreamer.
From Lake St Claire we went to Lake Erie and Put-n-Bay for
another long stay – this time weather related.
We ended our stay in Lake Erie at Port Colburn, CA. - (we could have tried Niagara Falls but
decided against the plunge J) we traveled through the Welland Canal to
Lake Ontario.
In Lake Ontario we beat feet (sailed and motored) to Fair
Haven, NY to have our mast un-stepped. Again, we had a slightly longer stay
than anticipated. Mast went on a truck
and we proceeded to the Oswego Canal, Lake Oneida then Erie Canal.
Out of the Erie Canal into the Hudson River we stopped for a
while in Catskill, NY to re-step our mast.
On down the Hudson with minor weather adventures to Staten
Island and a great visit with our future son-in-law Josh, Emmy, and sunset
sail, and waiting for a weather window.
TADA- got some good weather and went from Great Kills
harbor, Staten Island, NY to Cape May, NJ-
via the North Atlantic – overnight
– 120 nautical miles. TADA
From Cape May we went to Delaware Bay to C&D canal to
get to Chesapeake Bay and the Annapolis Sail Boat Show. Again an extended stay but I got a freezer
for the boat, and a cleaver boat hook, harness for the outboard motor and lots
of good advice. We met with Donna and
her kids and with Dawn.
Boat show over for us back into the Chesapeake Bay to the
Choptank River (another weather adventure L
and finally to the Potomac River – to get to Woodbridge to meet up with Dawn to
get my drivers license (yes you need one even if you are in a boat.) I have my license and we had a great visit
even if the temperatures dropped to 37 degrees.
The Bernard family came back out to visit us and we got some needed
provisions from West Marine and Wegmans.
So today Sunday 10/14 we started back down the Potomac to
reach the Chesapeake Bay to get to Norfolk, VA to find the Dismal Swamp and get
to Elizabeth City, NC.
Where we go after that is anyone’s guess.
Confused, YEP – so are
we. J
