Dismal Swamp
It is hard to describe the color of the canal, a rich dark chocolate with swirls of caramel frosted with fall leaves is about as close as I can come. It is not stagnate water, the current is steady, the width about 100 feet if that. You can hear road traffic then only the sounds of the boats. We pass small hamlets and parks along the way but all in all we are the only ones here. We spotted a few Turtles sunning themselves and I caught a hawk with it wings spread getting a feather tan. The reflections of the trees in the water made some interesting pictures. Fall is past her prime, but there are still some trees that wear their full colorful coats and occasionally a glimpse of flowers on the stump arrangements. It is a place of falling down and twisting vines, seeds sprouting from every crevice where they can gain purchase. There were twelve of us meeting up again and rafting together at the visitors center.
