We packed, sorted, suffered through water ski boats tossing us around, called and text family and friends, checked the weather numerous times and finally at 6 AM this morning we were up ready to go.
We raised anchor and motored out of Lake Sylvia and into the channel. We had the 17th bridge to go through, waiting for the 7 AM opening - I foolishly sent out the message we were good to go. Tom put us in reverse to slow our progress and when the bridge tender called to give us the go
WELL -
we could not get out of reverse, going backwards headed for the green marker - a large metal pole in the channel - Tom went below and manually put us in neutral then went and dropped anchor to keep us from drifting into one of several large yachts, the bridge, the markers.
Tom tried to see if it was only a small hiccup in the system- no such luck.
A call to Tow Boat US and to Lauderdale Marina - and after an hour of stress,
Fishing boats coming buy with their wakes explaining we can't anchor in the channel, or just curious as to what was going on.
Then being towed to a slip, backing in between two mega yachts and large pilings.
We are here until we can find out what is going on- then we have to find a less expensive place to stay if the repairs take awhile.
So folks - dang if I know what will happen next.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers- we may have sunshine but this has been the pits lately.
