From Stuart to North Palm Beach 12-19

Wednesday morning was hectic. We wanted to leave Stuart, but our new GPS  Tom bought from West Marine wasn't arriving until after 10 AM. We needed to return the car, and I needed Tom to stop at the grocery store and get raisins for our Greer Raisin gravy for Christmas. All of our tasks were finished so we scooted out of our wonky slip at 11:30 heading down  St. Lucie river to the ICW and 7 Bascule bridges. We managed to make all the bridges though the Donald Ross Bridge gave us a run for our money, started to close then called back that she would reopen to let us through. Tom was stung by a bee, but the day ended on a positive note getting into our slip with no drama.
We are in Palm Beach for the next couple of days.

leaving Loggerhead Marina, Stuart Fl
Under the bridge and going west is the Okeechobee Waterway.
It is a man-made waterway from Stuart to Fort Myers. Unfortunately for us several of the
bridges are less than 60' that we need to clear our mast so it is not an option for us.

The mangrove habitat is fascinating  hide-a-way for many species. You can see fish jump, birds fishing, and the elusive Manatee finds shelter there. An estimated 75% of the game fish and 90% of the commercial fish species depend on this system. The branches of Mangroves serve as roost and rookeries for birds.
There are three mangrove species in Florida, Red mangrove, Black mangrove and White mangrove and an associated species the Buttonwood.
Red Mangrove grows closest to open water and has multiple prop roots as shown in this picture
