We have survived the second polar vortex, I believe this one was colder than the first one. It is hard to imagine we have traveled over 4,000 miles to bring Cool Hand south to wake up to 21 degrees, the same temperature as Fruitport Michigan, where we started. Even Keesler AFB closed, the marina turned off the water for the duration of the freeze to keep the pipes from bursting. My new Electric blanket was kept running all day as Tom and I just hunkered down. The pier was covered in icy snow slush and dangerous to walk on. Slipping and falling into the water was not an option either of us wanted to explore. I did make homemade beef soup, hot oatmeal, and brownies. We have semi good reception here so we did watch TV, read and of course I knitted.
By January 30th the weather was starting to turn so Tom rented a car and we escaped and went out and explored. We took a side trip to Keesler AFB, Tom got a hair cut, we shopped the BX and Commissary finding our boxed milk at a very reasonable price and stocked up.
It is February now, my bronchitis is finally easing up and I am not coughing all night just half the night. We are returning the car today and hoping this fog lifts and we will leave tomorrow for Alabama. The Goal is Florida .... Tarpon Springs by the end of next week, but the weather is really iffy for the weekend so who knows.
