The building on the Edison & Ford Winter Estates

After purchasing the land Edison drew a plan for the property and started on construction. He call the Estate Seminole Lodge. Edison invited friends and family down for long visits. The houses were construed with Open Verandas and casual furniture, rooms for servants and staff. Henry Ford came toe Fort Myers in 1914 and purchased the property next to the Edison estate. His last visit was in 1934 and finally sold the property in 1945.  Ford auctions off this originals furnished, and today their a representative antiques and collectibles in the home. The  original Grandmother Clock is on display the time on the clock is stopped at 11:40 an Irish tradition that tells the time of Ford's death on 4/7/1977
Kitchen  rooms are located  in a separate wing.

The furniture was easily moved to the back wall  so they could hold
parties and dances

Edison designed and manufactured "Electrolier" lighting
fixtures in the early 1880"s  to accommodated the newest inventions and
illuminate his new home.

The materials for the buildings were pre-made in Maine and shipped down to Fort Myers and built on sight in 1886
Orginally this was Thomas and Mina's Bedroom , but eventually
it became Mina's room
