We were winding down our stay in Marathon, getting water on board and stowing gear. Our last fun excursion was to the Sea Food Festival where we feasted on Conch salad, a Lobster dinner that really wasn't to bad and listen to music. I made a few purchases including Hip purses that I think will finally solve my "where to put my phone and wallet while I'm trying to get off the boat". Back on board, dingy hung in the davits we said good bye to crew of S/V Nautical Dreamer and waited for sunrise.
Sunday March 10th was the beginning of day light savings, we are soooooo out of the loop on things, did not realize it. At first a little bummed we had a later start than we wanted... however we realized we would have an hour of additional sunlight at the end of the day. The wind was brisk, our sails set and making pretty good speed dodging crab pots up the west coast of the keys. Tom noticed that even though the wind was still over 15 kts we were loosing speed, down to 4 kts. Looking a stern there was the shadow of a crab pot and a float following us.
We brought in the sails, dropped anchor and Tom put on snorkel and fins to check out how entangled we were.....
No crab pot....
Just stopping apparently allowed the thing to drift free...
Back up went the sails and with the assist of our engine we quickly made up the lost time.
First stop was Shark creek in the Everglades National Forest. We anchored in a little bend with about 6 other sailing vessels. It was a pleasant evening.
Monday NO WIND..... also no waves, so we motored north, with the weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday looking bleak and wet.
Our plans were to meet some friends at Indian key, a 30 nautical mile run. They were still in Marco Island and there were threats of Thunder storms on Tuesday so we kept at it and 12 hours later we tossed lines to Dotty and Hass at the Rose Marina on Marco Island.
