the ice cometh 1/21/2012

Hello - sun is shinning so I ventured out. Our morning doves were waiting for the other birds to knock some seeds down from the feeders.

Ice is starting to form along Lake Michigan. It is around 4' out from the shore. I am cautious and make sure there is sand beneath me at all times.

The sound of the waves is different now. You hear the chunks hitting, and under water whoosh and then the splash. It is its own unique orchestration.

Might have a good sunset tonight. If so more pictures.

another Sunday - and Snow

Finally went out to feed the birds and knock off the snow. As you can see it was a cold, wet endeavor.  Looks like we are going to get more snow tonight.

Port Washington to Muskegon

The sun rose right with only a puff of wind. We were going to leave and quickly got gear stowed away and started out.

First there was the gauntlet of fishing boats to get through. We motored a good 6 nm before we had enough room to put up the sails.

The wind was right were they said it was and we were on a beam reach 4+knots.

We were visited by a very tiered little bird. It stayed around for awhile then flew off south.
A freighter passed us by - it looked like it had a house on the aft section and you can see it in the picture.  Sunset was beautiful and we had a 99% moon. Ten miles from shore we appreciated the moon light as we had dense fog, Luckily it burned off a mile before the entrance to Muskegon Lake. Found our mooring and grabbed on first try. Home, we left at 8AM CST and arrived 11:45pm EST sailing 95% of the way.
our visitor- anyone have an idea what kind of bird it is? I could not
find it in my book.

I might have been out in the sun to long but this looks like a
cow to me- no I did not hear it mooing. :)

The shadow looks a little like a moose- ok, it was a long day.

Posted by PicasaWe are home now- going to do some short trips and get ready to pull Cool Hand out for the season.
